The West Midlands has a rich tradition of morris dance. Cotswold and Border morris both originate within the region. Towns and villages such as Lichfield, Bidford-on-Avon, Ilmington, Pershore, Upton-upon-Severn have their own traditional dances. Although many dances are traditional to a village new dances are designed and named after local places or to commemorate notable events e.g. Jubilee, Headless Cross, The Windmill.
In addition, a number of teams dance North West morris which originated in the North West of England.
Teams such as Jockey Men's Morris and Stafford Morris Men have been in existence for over 60 years.
N.B. Some morris sides dance several styles, and include sword dance and mummers plays in their repertoire.
